One of my live rocks has been turning a dark. It's not a slimy algae. I wanted to know the consistency, so i tried brushing it off, and only came off with scraping. Is this coraline of a different color or am i getting cyno? It is is only one 1 rock out of 130#'s. It is only growing on one side( about 1/6 of the rock). Is this good or bad??

Coraline comes in different colors?? I thought it was just purple. I also saw some micro bubbles on 1 little section.

I have some red, purple, and even a pinkish color. Im sure its slightly different for everyone.

Give me some..
mine barely spreading. CA at 420. Trying to get the rear glass to take some on. I seem to get a new dot or two when I scrape some off the front glass. SOooo I took a razor a couple times and scraped the side glass covered with it, not scaping off the coraline but its surface, nothing.
Whats the best way (besides waiting)
Also I only see new dots of coraline on my front clean glass. Will it not take hold cause there is green algae residue on the rear glass I leave for the turbos???

I cant get any coraline on my glass. My rocks are growing very liitle. I have 2 rocks that were given to me encrusted with purple coraline. My Calcium is 450, and I dose 2 part, and add mag. too. I even tried purple up. Any suggestions.

IME coralline can be kind of quriky for no reason I've figured out.

Ca, alk, and Mg being in range help. That said, I've had periods where all of the above seemed fine but I would see very little growth. Other times the stuff thrives.

Lighting is important as well.
The pinks and purple stuff don't seem to like very intense lighting.Wonder what would happen if I scraped my coralline(I have tons)and caught the floating stuff with a turkey baster. If this could be used to help seed a tank?

I was told seeding with scraping is one of the best ways to get it to spread.
I thought lighting increased coraline production?

I have coralline growing thick under PC lighting.
Both in my display and in my refugium.Heck,I even have corraline growing on the glass and PVC in my cycled QT.
One thing I will tell you,not only is lighting important, but also the BIG 3.Alk,calcium and Magnesium.I keep my Mg at 1500 ppm.,Cacium at 480-500 and Alk around 9-11 DKH.A lot of people don't watch the MG as the test are rather expensive.........but it's very important.

MG is important for Coralline growth. Lighting isn't an issue. Some like high some like low it will grow given the right range of the Big 3.

I see MG set to 1500.
I have the Red Sea MG kit, it only goes to 1280..

What kits do you use....
Thanks

i have CL up the %$* i can scrap and cyphon some out if you want some

do you send by air Pj? Brdgwatr not a short flight out. lol

I had a really rough time seeing the color change on the Red Sea Mg. test kits,Stimpy. So I broke down and payed the $$$ for the Salifert kit.I here that Elos is just as effective.......same $$$ though.

It wasnt the money, it was the only one at Tropic Isle,
I e-mailed red sea also, end color never comes close.. just purple, never bright blue.
Who stocks the others? or online better? Thanks
