Reefkeeper Elite

And my other question is, is the ACIII user friendly? I can use my Octopus, but it is a pain in the butt and most times I just ask Keith to do anything with it I need done. That really annoys me, I want to do all of it myself!!!

I believe it to be very easy to use, but I am an also an IT person, so my opinion of easy is a bit skewed ;)

That being said, turning devices on / off, and checking device status is very simple.

The programming can be simple or complex, depending on what you want it to do, but the programming only needs to be done once, and you have all of us to help with that ;)

Programming on the AC3 is not hard at all. I'm no IT guy either :). I did have some hair pulling issues with my AC3 with random events like lights, fans and occasionally pumps turning off outside of the programming. These random events were linked to electrical interference from certain ballasts (I think).

I had to move cords around and plug everything into a surge protected strip and that seemed to clean things up(fingers crossed).

Ethernet setup was relatively easy as well. I think controllers are alot like tank insurance to some degree.

Feed function is great! I need to setup another feed timer for water changes.

I'll give the AC3 two thumbs up.

I had the same events with my AC but after a brief conversation with Curt at Neptune (A+++++ customer service) he pointed me to electrical interference also.

I plugged my AC into an APC 1500 and never looked back. It controls my entire environment flawlessly.

Don't tease me. Whatever would I do with all of my extra time if I wasn't doing something reef related?

Hey, consider yourself lucky that your spouse WANTS you to do reef stuff!

Lucky... yeah, that's it!! Lucky!!!!!! Woo-hoo!! Anybody else need a whole system designed and built? Yayyyy!!!!!!!!

Seriously, I don't really mind. Too much. It's trying to get all the little stuff with a new tank done that is quite annoying.

Yep, that applies to the entire strip (I read more about it myself). The strip can be set for something like, max 10 amps. So if the entire strip exceeds 10 amps, then it will shut down the entire strip. Their point is that if the strip shuts down before something goes wrong, everything else on that circuit won't also be shut down. However, this will require you to know what threshold to set your strip at. Also, from an electrical engineering perspective, if something so drastic happens causing this to be needed, having the whole circuit go down is not really a bad thing.

This strip does not have GFCI on each outlet, nor does it have GFCI protection on the entire strip for that matter.

I think the DA team is really good at marketing and hyping their product, but IMO it is inferior to the AC3 in capabities.
Wow. What is the source of your info? You've been beta testing an RKE for Digital Aquatics?

My information is directly off their website, I have not been beta-testing for DA:

http://www.digitalaquatics.com/m_product_info.php?part_number=30-0014-000

It clearly states it has a single 15 amp breaker for the entire power strip. Not a single mention of GFCI anywhere. If each outlet was individually GFCI protected, that would be a HUGE selling point, and would be mentioned all over the product page.

Oh! Sorry I was confused. I thought somebody said you had special insider knowledge. Just wondering what the basis was for the inferior product judgement. Now I know.

The RKE should be a good thing for everyone including those who are very loyal to Neptune. At the very least this should spur new things from them.

I said that IMO (in my opinion) the DA's RKE is inferior in functionality to the Neptune AC3, based upon what functionality is stated on DA's website versus what is stated on the Neptune website. I have said a few times in different threads that anytime someone is in the market to buy a controller, to list out the functions you need it to perform, and then check the various controllers out there to see which one's can do what you need. From there it is up to you. For my use, the RKE cannot provide the functionality that I want, and the AC3 can. So if I needed to buy another controller, I would choose the AC3.

I never said it was a bad thing that the RKE was hitting the market. Similiar products on the market drive down prices and increase research into new products.
