removing a GBTA from live rock

I would like to remove a GBTA from the live rock that it is attached to in order to give to a friend. Is there a safe way to do this without hurting the anemone.

Thanks

You can try rubbing an ice cube around the foot and hope it releases. Another trick is to aim a power head at it. It will probably want to move due to the amount of flow directed at it. Good luck on your mission and don't try to pry it off the rock. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the info

Thank you very much for the tips. I will try them.:)

I got rid of one of mine by taking the rock out and using a knife to pry up the foot. Once you get a piece of the edge up it kinda peels off. Be careful not to tear or rip it though. Mine made it through it just fine, good luck!

not under water

Cold spoon method, keep a spoon in the freezer and then rub it on the foot. INSTANT release :)

That sounds like a great idea... I'll have to remember that for future reference...

I've never heard of that trick...that's cool (no pun intended). I have to admit (somewhat sheepishly) that I have pried them off before with total success, but I don't exactly recommend it. If they are on a fairly flat, non-porous piece of rock where the foot is on the outside they usually come right off if you lift up on one edge a little, but I would never try to do that if they were on very porous rock or had the foot embedded in the rock at all.
