My tank take down went well thx to Michele! And the tank already has a new home : ) Much success to the new owners.

This is the first time in 5 years that I haven't had a tank. It's a mixed blessing really. I can now see wild fish and coral every day - but, believe it or not, I miss managing a mini reef and seeing the daily life of my fish.

As promised I have a couple of pics for BRS. A school of tangs and a panorama of one of the most beautiful beaches on St John, USVI.

Man, do I need a vacation.

Going down to st Thomas in January, any recommendation on where to go snorkeling?

I live in St Thoms for 5 yrs, St Thomas has JUST OK snorkeling... best Place in STT is Sapphire beach...

I suggest take the 10 min ferry to St John and Do Waterlemon Cay... hands down the best snorkeling on the planet.

@Dfrontiero89 - St John has some of the best shallow water snorkeling in the Caribbean. Top spots for experienced swimmer/snorkeler ...Waterlemon Cay, Haulover North, Yawzi Point (between the 2 Lameshurs) and a great casual snorkel ... Vie's/Hansen Bay, Trunk Bay, and Maho [turtles and rays]!

Visitors overlook Trunk ...but I shot a bunch of picks yesterday. There's plenty to see AND keep the wife happy with a beautiful beach and aqua blue waters ; )1375894_476730612434893_299584990_n.jpg1378583_476730055768282_1372268110_n.jpg1391656_476730375768250_1037431704_n.jpg1098149_475727449201876_2003917656_n.jpg

Here's a few sites for info ... www.stjohn-beachguide.com and www.onislandtimes.com . If you decide to come down - let me know.

Just go to coral world then, That's the next stop after Red hook.. you won't have time to go to STJ

Lots of cruise ship passengers spend a day on St John. Check your ship's schedule. Taxis leave from Cruz Bay, St John and go to Trunk Bay Beach ( recommended day trip beach). The lifeguards make announcements for cruise passengers heading back to St Thomas ; )

@Kiah - Come on down - the fishes and corals are waiting for you! Flights should be reasonable for any week outside of Christmas/New Years. JetBlue usually has the best flight/price.

I'm working on it - hope to see you soon!

Some shots taken yesterday at Maho Bay.

@s_kelley - I took all of the pictures. Underwater images - I'm shooting with an inexpensive Panasonic Lumix DMC-TS10. It does a reasonable job in shallow water WITH a steady hand. I wouldn't recommend the camera because of its limitations and pic quality. I just started shooting close-ups and the camera does an admirable job ( again, very steady hand = good results). For the landscape images - I use an older Nikon D70s with a Nikkor 18>55mm lens and shoot in Nikon's NEF format.

More from that same day ...
