Riptide gyre in action

Why ??

It will make a circular flow from left to right or right to left. Unless is in pulse mode it will be laminar too....correct ??

In pulse mode can produce the same wave effects as the classical wavemaker pumps (MPs or Jebaos) ??

yes, it will still be laminar but at least you can reverse the flow.
when it is in pulse mode, there is no different than Tunze, MP and WP pumps

since setting up my reef a year ago , I have experimented with a ton of stream / wave pumps after seeing what each one does ( in my tank mind you ) I settled on the MP 40's for my 90 , RW 20's in my big tanks . where as one of my big tanks are bare bottom I think setting up one of these gyre generator from Maxpect in vertical position will do nicely . In my 90 I am not so sure since like Dong says rocks , corals and the like sort of get in the way of getting that perfect flow . Not to mention the sand bed . Thats why they make MP 10's so you can suppliment areas not getting the flow you need/ want I think alternating flow sending water clockwise then counterclock wise is very effective and stirring up detrius , keeping corals growing straight up and not sideways . So again like everything else in this hobby it varies from tank to tank , there is no perfect solution
