Sand color choice for dwarf seahorses

I'm starting up another h. zosterae tank. I've heard conflicting opinions on the best color substrate to use to see the best color in the horses. What do you all think?

I'm not sure about the dwarfs but a lot of other breeds change to blend in with their environment. The darker the surroundings the darker they will be. My beautiful yellow reidi is now a drab brown.

I went bare bottom with my seahorses and found it easier to keep clean. Oceanrider in Hawaii suggests black when using sand.
