Sea-flo, great first impression

Has anyone tried Pat's newest creation?

I picked up a 600 today, wow, I'm impressed, this is a very nice and refined mod kit.

For me it was a toss up between that and the other new competetor in the maxi mod world. Today I contacted Pat, and a great LFS supplier of the competition (thks you know who you are). Both got back to me within an hour of my asking by PM/e-mail, but Pat was a little more convient to get to, so I went with his kit (and I really wanted the 600 kit over the 1200 kit, IIRC Pat's the only one who has kits for the different sizes.)

FWIW I have no exp with the "other mod kit" (which also sounds very nice), but Pat's kit is, IMO, fantastic. I got the mj 600 kit, and even that is producing tremendous flow and I'm very happy with it. Assembly is super easy, I did it while driving on I-93, and it's %100 plug and play. I also really like Pat's mounting bracket. It's not complicated, but I can angle it anyway I want it and it takes up almost zero space. The flow on the mj600 kit is easily 1/2 to 2/3 of the flow of a tunze 6060. I can't imagine the flow on the 1200 kit?

Check this out if you don't already know about it, Great product by a local reefer.

Bump,

anyone checked out the sea flo kits yet? Buler, buler.....

Kits include a mounting bracket that works with existing MJ mounting parts. Available for MJ 600, 900, and 1200. All are $29 per kit.

I'm super happy, just looking to get the word out that these are available now :)

*FWIW I have no vested interest in this and don't even know Pat personally beyond my one encounter with him when I picked up my kit*

I don't know anything about Pat's product but I just ordered a couple of the Algae Free units, I like the fact that they can be used on all MJ sizes and I have been happy with anything I have purchased from them, price is good and I had an order going into MD anyway. I'll keep you advised.

New models look really good. I have four of the older ones still running 100%

Pretty much... and you forgot Eco-tech mine come in tomorrow! I'll let you know what I think

They are all the same idea, but made by different people/companies.

First was the "maxi-mod", a DIY project that required finding parts and doing some DIY work

Then there was ocean flo - carefully designed and made kits created by a local reefer and distributed via a local e-tailer.

Then very reccently the algae free kits - basically the first inexpensive kit to come to market. They just copied the maxi mod idea, and the detailed work that went into the ocean flo. Became available last month

Then the Sea-flo. Made by Pat, the local reefer who created the ocean flo. Same thing, but now using a molded housing instead of the machined PVC one the ocean flo had (and half the price now).

I don't know where the eco-tech fits into the story?

I got my sea-flo by e-mailing the website. Pat called me back about 30 minutes later and we made a plan for me to pick up a couple of hours later. I was very impressed at his responsiveness and I hear he is also great on customer service in general.

CRA (awsome LFS) has the algae free kits.

As far as I can say at this point, the kits are all the same concept. The big deciding factors seem to be the mounting bracket design. Also, sea-flo has different kits for the MJ600, MJ900, and MJ1200. I think the algae free kits say they work on any MJ pump. I don't know what is right/better.

Here's Pat's site (sea flow)

Here's Jeremy's site (coral reef aquarium)
www.inverts.com

I highly reccomend dealing with either of these people. As for the products, I can say with confidence that the sea-flo is a very nice product, and from what I hear and what pics I have seen the algae free kit is also very nice.

Search for some pics/check the sites for pics. IMO/guess the biggest difference at this point is which mounting brackett set up you prefer.

I like the sea-flo brackett because it's solid and you don't need the seperate magnet. The algae free brackett looks great too, but you need the magnet in addition to the kit.

JK can you post a picture of the sea-flo in action? I good shot of the mounting bracket would be appreciated.

Word is we will likely have some of these available for the auction!

I also was very impressed with the new sea flow design...I cant wait to put one in my new setup. From a history stand point, pats service just can't be beat.

Plus, you can spend a fair amount of time talking tanks with the one that is making the product...

different from the competition...

Good job Pat! Expect an order in the near future.

much thanks

You pretty much answered my q's. decidinf factor for me is which mount I want to go with.
