i wouldnt plan to do it because it would be hard if at all do able
but i guess it is possible to keep a seahorse in a 2-3 gallon tank
anyone have any comments about this
what do seahorses need to survive and what kind could possibly live in this small of a tank

You could keep dwarf seahorses in a 2-3 gallon tank. No other species of seahorse though.

Dwarfs need to be fed newly hatched BBS (brine shrimp) at least once a day, so they're a lot of work.

A 2-3 gallon tank is a very hard size for anything more than maybe a peppermint shrimp and a couple soft corals. Even then, very minor fluctuations in environment may have a detrimental effect.

Any tank smaller than 20 gallons or so requires a lot of care to keep running properly.

They do not eat anything but newly hatched baby brine shrimp. You would have to buy decapsulated brine shrimp eggs (available at many LFS's or on-line) and you'd have to hatch them every day. You can buy brine shrimp hatchers at the same place you get the eggs from.

You can also use non-decapsulated brine shrimp eggs, but you're likely to get hydroids..

No offense, but dwarf seahorses require a lot of care - they're really not a species that is recommended for the inexperienced...

If you really want to move forward with a 2-3 gallon tank, and it sounds like you do, I'd really recommend sticking with 1-2 shrimp, or some crabs at least for the first few months.

its just someone else posted a 2-3 gallon tank with a seahorse and clown goby and i was wondering if that was possible and how good this guy must have been

You are married to them...bottom line This is why I got out of seahorses. You can't even take a weekend away unless you have someone to help.

I had dreams of a dwarf seahorse tank for my 3g picotope. When I found out what was required, I said F'that. It is true that you have to feed LIVE baby brine, and optimum is 4x a day, with 2x the least I ever read. It's not like you can just get your neighbor to come over and drop pellets in your tank. I don't know how anybody ever keeps these things. It sucks because they are really nice and I wanted a tank full of them so bad.
