Has anyone used this sand before? Is it good or bad. I noticed it has bigger grains than the normal sand.

if it's the stuff I'm thinking about, it's calcite, which is similar to aragonite, but dissolves at a much lower pH (so it will not buffer anything in your tank the way aragonite will, it'll be more inert like silica sand). I had this in my brackish tank a few years back before i converted it to salt water (it was sold under a different name, by Seachem I think)

Depending on grain size it may trap detritus, but chemically it is OK to use. The grains in the one I had were tiny, about the same as oolitic sand.

the grains are a lil bigger but nothing like grains of crushed coral.

and yes it is calcite. I have a mix in my tank i have about 20lbs carib sea on the bottom and then 44lbs of the gray coast calcite. I just wanted a dark sand bottom because there arent too many out there. I prob shouldve did a lil more research on it before i bought it and put it in the tank and got it set up but im glad to hear it will be ok.

Grain Size

Heres the grain size i took a picture. Will this trap deritus?
