Shipping live rock overseas??? good idea?

FWIW, transferring LR from the US to IRE may be a CITES violation. I'd check into that first.

It it is against cites, and they catch you, its not going to be good.

CITES = Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, bans on selling or transporting certain species of animals.

wow...well i suppose how do they transport them lol... surely it must be allowed, sure all the lfs send live marine products this way to customers....but yeh i hear ya ill have to look into this now too

The people that transpost them have special licenses.

Just a thought.... if you end up opting for Marco rock, you could ask him to mail it directly to Ireland as media mail, or some other inexpensive form of shipment. Of course it's up to Marc as to whether or not he's willing to ship overseas, but it may be a good solution.

FWIW, I have never seen any LR locally that compares to the dry rock from Marc. It really is incredible rock...

There's an e-mail button there.

Hey guys, Looks like a great site. Im totally new to this game so im just wondering is it live rock? it doesnt look live as it is, do you need live rock then to culture it or something? Or am i missing something here?

It's not live rock, it's dead, base rock, but it is extremely porous and very natural...perfect for setting up a tank. Many people, myself included, have set up tanks with a very high percentage of this type of dead, base rock, then added just a few carefully selected pieces of live rock from other tanks to seed the tank. It can save you a lot of $.

I just set up a small tank with Marc's rock. I've added some live rock in there as well. The sand bed had been running for years. It looks great!
