Should you remove the Light Shield?

I have a Current 36", 2x96Watt Power Compact light fixture.

On the bottom of the fixture, there is a plastic shield that the light must go through. I was wondering if i should remove this to allow more light into the tank?
Does anyone have any pro's or con's on removing this shield?

If it has a fan then thats part of the cooling

Yes, it has two fans, so i guess i should leave it on.

yup, leave it on, just keep it clean

it will impede your cooling, and expose your reflectors to salt creep....which will deteriorate them.

leave it on.....
