Should I clean my skimmer body?? I have a large pm skimmer and it has a bunch of coralline algae on the sides of the body. Didn't know if that effects the efficiency of the skimmer.

Marc mentioned covering the skimmer to block light so algae didn't grow. I don't recall hearing him say it would cause any issues.

I'd imagine too much would interfere with the bubbling a took up the walls of the skimmer.

Mr.Saltwater tank said in a video to give your skimmer a long vin. bath ever 6 months or so. I've had mine for about 8 months and I only clean the cup. Its a HOB though, so its kind of a pain to do.

can't hurt...anything in the body can cause the fine bubbles from forming and be more efficient

light should be blocked so algae don't grow in the skimmer. the body should be somewhat clean except arount the top. octopus says to clean the collection cup often. i clean the cup every two weeks but the body only once a year. remember the way a skimmer works, it scrubs the water with bubbles. it does it in a swirling pattern, so if there is something disrupting that pattern it will deposit the sludge in other places not in the cup.

I clean mine about every 3-4 months. Makes a big difference in performance, probably should clean it more often but I get lazy. I usually run vinegar through it overnight then rinse and wipe the entire thing. Even though I have a drain to a bucket, I clean the cup at least every 2 weeks.

Thanks for the advice I think I will pull the skimmer out this weekend and give it a quick cleaning. Does anyone know where I can get tinted plexiglass?
