Skimmer and Adding New water to tank

I have a new setup and noticed that as I do a water change or add water my skimmer cup fills fast. I just did a 15 gal change and must have taken 4 gallons total from cup. It is a euro reef RS80. Is this normal? Should I shut down skimmer for a day when adding water, is that okay? The water doesnt look all that bad when I empty the cup.

My skimmer does that too. I just run it with the cup overflowing in the sump until it looks like its calmed down. Then, I pour the contents of the cup back in the sump and let 'er go.

It usually only lasts a couple hours. The water that is filling your skimmer cup like you explain is not waste IMO.

Thanks for reply,
I actually just got off the phone with Euro reef (my Skimmer) He points out that I am not using reverse osmosis water and it is filtering out alot of waste...

When you are changing the water is the level in the sump changing much (not at the same level as before the change)? If I over fill my sump even an inch the skimmer fills quickly if it is not readjusted.

Same thing

My ASM does the same thing and like StevenP I let it overflow also. It is a good idea to clean the collection cup prior to letting it overflow.

I use RODI so I dont know what the euro folks aree talking about
