Skimmer pump failed....what to do

I have a Euroreef cs80 (bought used, pretty sure that's the model)

Any who, I noticed the other night that it wasn't running, but the pump was making noise. I disassemble the skimmer, and take the pump apart to try to clean it. When I plug it back in, it was still jammed. Boo. I took it out of the water for a second to try to help the impeller spin, and POOF apuff of smoke comes from the pump. I immediately unplugged it. Damn. I killed the pump.

So at this point do I
A) buy a new pump (sedra ksp 3500)
B) buy one of these "modded" pumps-

C) sell the body, and buy a new skimmer

What's so special about the modded pump? The site doesn't give much details.
I don't mind spending a few bucks on getting a new skimmer. This could be a good opportunity to upgrade.

My system is about 70 gallons right now. Only 3 fish, and about a dozen coral. Will be adding more live stock, so I'd like to be prepared for that

Yeah I did like the skimmer

I'm curious what's so special about the "modded" sedra pump that makes it $140 compared to all the other ones that seem to be in the $50 range
