Skimmer recommendations, and return pump thoughts

dcforester1

Finally enjoying my tank
I am on the waiting list for a Life Reef sump, but I don't know if thats the direction that I will be going in. I will be looking for a sump, skimmer, and return pump. I am thinking maybe I shouldn't have sold them, but a little late to worry about that. What are people using for skimmers, and return pumps? are people using DC motors? I haven't looked at this stuff in awhile, and kind of surprised after seeing it all, and not sure what to think.

TIA Derek

I have had a bunch of different skimmers, and I've been the most pleased with the reef octopus skimmers as far as consistency goes. No trouble on restarts, and once they are dialed in usually don't need any adjusting.

Also been running a pair of jebao DC pumps for about 14 months without being touched once. They get ******** down twice a week for water change days and start right back up no problem.

I love my asm g2 skimmer. Works great.

I was very happy with my Jabeo DC pump I am selling it though , cause my system needs much bigger . As for skimmers I have had a few different kinds I am most happy with reef octopus . I don't think I will ever go with the real high end skimmers like bubble king or deltech cause in the end they do pretty much the same thing

Sro skimmers are the best value out there IMO. When looking at price, quality and consistency they rock

I've had good luck with a Jebao DC-9000. Great performance for the price and a nice, variable speed DC motor.

I've also had great luck with my Reef Octopus skimmer.

Thanks for all the replies. I have had a SRO and I was happy with it. I don't know why I keep trying other skimmers. I was going to get a RE, but after thinking about it, I realized I was getting a little crazy. At the end of the day they do all do the same, some a little better than others, but they are over the top cost wise. Are people staying away from the DC pumps on skimmers?

Thanks for the info

Derek
