Skimmer recommendations

Im in the market for a new skimmer as my reef octo has just crapped out on me. My current setup is about 100 gallons total. But i plan on expanding to 220 by the end of the year. So i would like to get something that will work for 220 gallons. I like the reef octopus classic 202s its rated for up to 265 gallons. I also like the bubble magus d8. I would like to stay under $500 for the skimmer. But i feel as though i may have blinders on against others. Please give me your recommendations with pros and cons. Thanks

Well looks like ill be making my own uneducated guess lol. I cant believe no one has opinions on skimmers. Im thinking i will probably go with the reef octopus classic 202s. According to the specs it will handle a larger tank and also has 100 cheaper price tag.

I haven't been in the hobby as long as most I but do have to say that Reef Octopus has been the best brand I've had so far. Please note that the skimmers I have had are all HOB.

Between my 3 tanks I'm close to that total and running a Reef Octopus 3000-INT.
Have a small bio-load so as in the amount of "gunk" that it pulls is minimal.
Pros: works great, decent efficiency, bubble blaster pump is awesome
Cons: Even with an auto-neck cleaner, neck cleaner and collection portion need to be cleaned weekly.

When I decided on this a big topic of debate was the sizing.
Reef Octopus suggests (but maybe not all other brands) to keep close to their recommendations whereas over-sizing will underperform.

I've been very happy with my DC powered RLSS skimmer. RO makes a line using the same style pump.

Woah what about the bashsea twisted series? I run a 6-24 on my 90 very large bioload due to feeding my nps corals lots of food multiple times a day but one of those would work very well. I have not had experience with and RO skimmers sadly but I have heard good things. One piece of advice, get a skimmer rated for more than 250 gals, that way you have wiggle room.

+1 to the Eshopps 200 Cone skimmer. Have had one for over a year and it is still working like its brands new.

When it comes to skimmers you want easy to take apart and clean, quiet and one that is easy to tune. I have an Sro 5000 and feel like I could have gone smaller . But I am not done with fish stocking yet so we will see.

Sro 3000 on my 300 gals. Can't go wrong with bubble blaster pumps, longest warranty. Love my auto neck cleaner. Been running like a champ for almost 3 years.

You also want a skimmer that meets your water level in the sump and not hit the top of your tank, if raised. Of course, your set up may influence whether this is relevant or not. My Aquamax was ok at 9 inches, while the Octopus wanted only 5 inches. * I think there is dirty joke in here somewhere.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I ended up going with a brand new reef octopus classic 202s its rated for up to 265 gallon tank. It also uses the aquatrance 3000 pump. I will be able to let everyone know how this skimmer works. Price was 330.
