Skimmers: Reef Octopus NWB-200 vs Extreme vs C-Skim 1800

Hi All -

Time is coming for a new skimmer. I was looking at the following 3 options; not sure which way to go. I *REALLY* like the C-Skim, but the Octopus reputation is hard to beat. Thoughts? Here's the models I'm debating over:

Thanks!!!

I ran a generation I NW200, with that OTP pump, and it really was a terrific skimmer for the $.

FWIW, I ran a meshmod on the pump, and then it really skimmed...

Thanks! Now, about your "for the money" comment... would it be worth spending a bit more and getting something else? If so, what would you recommend?

what size tabk is it going on as one of thosse skimmers is rated at 250 galls and another is rated for 160, and i like the octo extreme 250.....if i had $350 to buy a skimmer that would be it

Yeah, I'm actually leaning towards the Octo xtreme. I haven't seen a 250... I've seen a 160 and 200. My tank is 90 gallon + 75 fuge... so I was going to go for the 160 (which fits in my sump as currently designed, otherwise I'll have to move baffles around for the 200 - not that it's a big deal). Is that good enough or should I go for the 200? My tank is mixed, mostly sps, with 2 clowns, a mandarin, a blue tang, and a six-line wrasse (ie, decent amount of feeding!). Thank you all for your feedback, it's much appreciated...

Go for a cone skimmer with the Bubble Blaster pump. You WON'T be disappointed!

FWIW i always believed you sould by bigger support equipment than needed because you WILL upgrade. I bought a PM bullet two rated for 250g when i only had about 80g worth of actual water volume at the time and wouldnt you know it i've since about trippled that and that skimmer is still jamming.

hmmmm, that super reef octo looks like a good skimmer.

I can only tell you the OTP3000 makes some good foam....

+1 here I am so glad I listened to you. I got the 1000, and 10min after going into the tank it was skimming. You wont be disappointed with the 2000. I wanted that, but it was to tight under the stand.

GoodLuck

I'm convinced! Just bought myself the Super Reef Octopus XP-2000. Can't wait to get it! Thank you all for your great input.

good choice and for a 90 you will be able to stock heavy and also feed heavy, so grab a harem of anthias or something cool

That series of Octopus Skimmer is hard to beat. Those Bubble Blaster pumps are great! low energy consumption, great air intake, great fractionation, and not too noisy, not silent but not too loud. Plus the quality of build on the body is excellent. I have been happy with every one I have installed, and have not had one complaint on any we have sold.
