Sohal Tangs, anyone keep them?

How aggressive are Sohal Tangs, do they harrass other tankmates? Any problems? Preferably firsthand experience would be great input. Thanks.

I recently saw one in a prison tank. He was there because he shredded all his tang friends. Beautiful fish though.

imho one of the best tangs ive ever had reason why im looking for a big tank again

i had mine with a purple tang and a hippo no problems but gets big reason why i sold him to another reefer here

I have one that I keep in my 220. He's about 10" and shows zero aggression towards smaller tangs (vlamingi, purple, blue hippo, & powder blue). But this could also be caused from the fact that the Sohal was the last tang placed in my tank.

Long term they will grow out of just about any 'home size' aquarium. Mine in my 8 ft by 3 ft tank is getting more and more agressive with the other large fish. Easily stressed fish will be just that...easily stressed by this fish. I lost a copperband butterfly that I'd had for a few years when it became stressed by my Sohal. Even after moving the CB to an isolated tank (same water, connected tank) it never started to eat again. Might be easier to keep the Sohal if there are no other large fish in the tank.

I've had one for 6+ years now. I have to agree with everything Greg said above. I have a 7' 210 and it's not large enough at this point imo. I had to remove a Powder Blue Tang a couple of years back that was the Sohol's tank mate for 3-4 years. One day the Sohol decided that the PBT had worn out it's welcome and didn't let it eat at all, nor did it let the PBT alone at any time. I've also had smaller Rabbitfish that when they grew, the Sohol would repeat this behavior. I do have a Majestic Angel that it lets alone so far. I love the fish, but he can be a bit of an a$$ at times.

I have a small Sohal and he's not really aggressive, he's just the "boss" of the tank, period. He chases the others around but not to the point of hurting anyone (yet). :D

I'm sure he'll outgrow my 4' 120 in a couple of years at which time I'll send him off to a new home but for now he's my favorite fish!

I have one in my 300 gallon thats a big baby, he's about 7 inches and is kept with a few other tangs and large fish, no problems and I have had him for a while now, got him from Scotty ( brokereefer) when he was just a little guy, Most have a reputation for being pricks but just like anything there are exceptions. I love him, and he and my Achilles Tang will readily eat right out of my hands.

that's why i wish i had a big tank! Achilles AND sohal? :D

tangs

not worth him dominating or killing anything else in your tank.
I have seen so many people put them in their tanks and then wish they never did.
They are one of the most aggresive tangs, very territorial.

?

sohal tang and clown tang are not the same fish right? but they do look very similiar...don't know about the clown tangs temperment but may be something to look in to if the sohal is not going to cut it for what you're looking for.
