Solaris LED Lights

If you?re wondering if a multi-point light source can produce ?glitter lines? (or flicker or any of several other names) ? fear not: The Solaris lighting system (along with water surface agitation) did indeed produce this effect.

I got to see Carlo's Solaris lights the other night... the shimmer effect is great, as are the colors and brightness. Almost zero heat too. I was highly impressed.

Hello Yes I love them! The coloring is great... It adds alot of depth at different times of day as it changes lighting based on season sun and lunar lighting.... No heat at all.

Skipton's had one on their display tank for a bit. They said it did not deliver at all and they got rid of it.

What do these lights run money wise? And do you need to change them once every 5 yrs or what? How many do you need for a lets say a 75g?

I dont think that is a fair judge of the lights, The might have not programmed them right or the tank could have been too deep. 24 inches is the recommended tank depth. But many people have had great success so far. I know my tank is now starting to thrive under the lights....

It is the length of the light but roughly $2,000. bulbs are said to last 5 yrs but I believe you dont need to change them unless they are out. Changing the bulbs they com in groups of 5 for a strip.

I just finished reading the article mentioned above.

The review was quite convincing untill the reviewer wrote:
"Lighting requirements of many, if not most, corals is overestimated by many hobbyists and lower light intensity offer advantages."

I think I will toss that review out of window.

The take home message is: it is not cutting it.

I don't know about that Dong. I agree that somepeople over do it with how much light they think they need.

The way I understand it and read in another place is intensity isnt really meaning your giving the corals the best light. The PUR value and spectrum is what is important. The RC forum has a whole tech thread on it...

Do you mind post the link to the thread? can't search RC now. Thanks

I think it was basically a paid review, and the comparison was against a 20k halide. I put it on top (right on top) of a tank that had a 250w halide 20" off it.. and the LED looked like I had an actinic lamp on in comparison. No way would I use one for SPS. Sanjay says they have about the light output of a PC hood, and are a few years away from matching a halide. The color was nice.. but the intensity was very poor.

a guy in ct in cromwell has one in his shop. it was not impressive; turned all the way up; weak shimmer and very blue.
