I like to try to shoot my tanks whenever I have time (and when they look good!) The photos wind up being a good reference to gauge growth or detect patterns that may not otherwise be obvious at the time. I especially like to shoot macro but am far from a pro and am always trying to figure things out.

Thanks for all the kind compliments! My camera is Canon 7D and I am mostly shooting with 100mm Macro lens. The hardest part is dealing with the color balance. Shooting under LED is very difficult and trying to capture the fluorescence can be nearly impossible at times. I play with the white balance on the camera but the settings sometimes need to be changed for shots even a few inches apart. It is still nice when a shot comes out better than expected.

Was going to ask if that was just a point and shoot. I see it's not.
Do you use a tripod, or just go free hand?

It is almost always with a tripod. That's especially important for night/actinic shots. The other big challenge is that most of these shots are from my 47 bow-front. The curved glass really distorts things if they are further back in the tank.

Yeah, that clam is awesome. It's my baby Crocea and I am a bit concerned about what it is going to do to the rockwork over the next couple years! There is actually a much bigger one, ~6" down behind the A. echinata and above the cinnamon Palythoa grandis. It is hard to see because of the angle and that photo was taken with my phone.

One of my favorite Acropora. It is a rainbow with a red and orange body, lime green base and powder blue tips.
