Built my own overflow pipes and cant stop girgeling sound. put and extention to syphon and now that is above water with same toilet flushing sound. any ideas on how to fix this. dont have breather hole at the top of syphon cap is that necesary or is that my problem.

Thank you,I will try it ASAP.

when you drill the hole start small and then make it bigger if it still flushes. If you make the hole too big, try dropping a small zip tie or two into the hole to reduce it.

There are a lot of things that can get finicky with overflow pipes, if you can post a pic we can offer a lot more specific advice.

Well this is the best I can do for now since I have my tank full of water, was doing the fresh water run, checking for leaks and other problems as is a good Idea. But the first photo shows the top of the overflow and the second shows my sump/refuge and my syphon hose leads nowhere but where I have it pointed out. see anything wrong please point it out,or Ideas please share.

you can drill a hole on the cap and insert a short hard plastic air tubing. Then connect a short piece of soft tubing on the hard tubing. The put a valve on the soft tubing to adjust the air flow.

If that's your overflow I'd go bigger, maybe 1 to 1.5 inch, it looks like 3/4 or 1/2inch. I find a flushing sound when the overflow has a straight shot into the sump. It quieted down after I made it run a wee bit diagonal.NBL

Out of curiosity, what are the ill effects of having too big of a vent hole? I would think the more venting the better?

Honestly I'm not sure. If your pushing the flow rates on your drains then too big air holes could slow flow. Otherwise there may be no problem?

Where the drains go into the sump, are the outlets submerged? If so you may want to make some sort of "reverse duroso" on the outlet. That would help with even draining and micro bubble reduction.

I read somewhere if you drill the hole too large, you can put a little plug of silicone on it. When it tacks up, you can make the hole the desired size.

The syphon tube is 1.5 reduced at the bulk head to 3/4 and the return tube is 3.4. The only reason for that is thats what I had available to me. should I resize the bulk head, but I think that most flows are reduced to that standard size are'nt they?

How much water you moving? l had 600 or so going through a 3/4 with 3/4 stand pipes, you should be able to push a little more withy the big stand pipes.

Flushing is due to a syphon being created. Does your drain go Up anywhere?

Flushing is from the cap not having the air hole as others have said. The only adverse effects of the hole being too large that I am aware of is the flow will slow a little and there will be more noise as the water flows through.

The other method is to drill a hole through the side of the cap and into the riser tube. Mine are 1/4 holes. Do not glue the top cap on the durso, turn the top cap to open or close the whole until the noise is under control

Well fellas its been about 5hrs since I drilled the tiny hole on the cap and have'nt heard a flush since.Thank you all for sharing your thoughts and ideas.:D
