Something came up in the sand

I have had my tank set up about three weeks. 75g with a 40G sump. Just some Micro Algae in the refugium, and some snails & hermit crabs from some live sand I added to the tank and refugium.

This has popped up in the sand of the display tank. Little Anemone small.jpg

Is it a anemone? Should it be removed?

It is about 1/4" across.

Thanks,
Mike

That's aptasia. You should try to get it out. Peppermint shrimp of copperband butterfly should do the trick, or you can try one of the products they sell at the LFSs to get rid of it.

Get it out now before it spreads like wildfire!!!

Thanks. I thought it was something like that. There is just one, that I can see, and I removed it along with some of the surrounding sand. I will keep an eye out for more.

Make sure you scoop the sand around it to as much around it as you can.

a few peppermint shrimp will keep any aipstasia in check. alternatively, ive used aipstasia-x with good results.
