i have a 90grr mixed tank i recently swichted to from a 75 i upgraded the lights to 250mh everything was doing great until one day i lost my hydroporia that i had for a very long time and now all my sps tips are bleaching i've check my calcium, mag, alk, and have been doing regular water changes my phos is alittle high but not that bad where i'v also noticed that my canycane and my war coral are receeding a little, and from what i'v read lps love phos. i was running bio pellets took them out about 2 weeks ago and changed my carbon. any idea that would help me out thanks

phosphorus will hurt growth, as will excess light. since it is the tips, could it be growth?

How's the temp. been? Also you did you acclimate the corals while upgrading the lighting?
What did you have for lights in the 75 gallon?
I've never heard of PO4 being good for LPS.

lights in the 75 were 150mh and my reefkeeper turns light off at 80.5 , also the light was about 8inchs from the tank i've got scollys and chalice that are doing great just my sps were growing had a lot of new growth just all of the sudden the tips started to get white and grow algea on them ????
i onlyy have the lights on for 8 hours(mh) per dayy

this is odd. so if the tips are growing algae then they are dead not just bleached. bleached corals are still alive but have expelled most of their zooxanthellae due to some stress.

it is totally possible that the tips were burned from the lighting or possibly a powerhead pointed directly at a coral. also consider that it is not necessarily the max temp of your tank but rather the daily swing. ei a tank that is always at 77 to 78 and doing fine. starts to rocket up to 80.5 corals may stress. i do find it hard to believe that going to 250 mh on a 90 from 150 on a 75 would burn your corals because of the difference in depth from a 75 to a 90 unless your corals are still high in the new tank. or if you had the 150mh over the 90 for a couple weeks then got the more powerful lights

thanksi think your on the right path i'm going to order new bulbs tonight just trying to get this right because i love acros and just alittle discusted that i'm acually takingcare of this tank and it's just messing with my head. deff not power heads because they're aiming straight to the frt. glass so im thinking light or even salt i switched to red sea coral pro before i switched tanks so im just ???????? thank for your opinion i'll let you know how i make out
