Im going to be starting my 1st Salt Water tank FINALLY....It's a 50 gallon sea clear acyrlic with built in wetdry. I want to do live Rock and live corals...whats my 1st step ? Does the water need to cycle like fresh water fish ? Sorry if these Questions have been asked before.

i'm not sure about the cycle for freshwater but the cycle for sw is major to the set up of the tank. you need to have an amonia spike then a nitrite spike then finally a nitrate spike. i'm sure other people here will be able to give you a more detailed answer but the cycle is very important. there are some good links in the beginner forum too.

I would suggest that you pick up a good book about reef tanks.
Although a little dated,Bob Fenner's Conscientious Marine Aquarist is a good one.
Shows you all about the cycle and has a little info on each fish invert popular in the hobby.

This was my first book. I strongly recommend you find it at your library or even buy it.

The New Marine Aquarium: Step-By-Step Setup & Stocking Guide (Paperback) by Michael S. Paletta

It gives a great look at all the steps needed in starting your tank, from early set up to your first fish and corals.

Also do plenty of research, read the psosts on this board and don't be afraid to ask tons of questions.

It may also be helpful to look at a few local reef setups of friends and I know allot of people on this board have been willing to show off there systems.

the biggest and most important advice I can give is have patience. Nothing comes fast in this hobby. It's tempting to rush things along and skip a few steps but it will cost you in the end!

good luck.
