Starting from scratch again

Murphy's Law
Just sold my finnex tonight, my finacial position is somewhat back in order. Time to start piecing together a new system and hopefully fix more shortcomings that I have encountered......

I've preety much decided on a Oceanic reef ready pro 58g, starfire glass, no center brace. This should allow for lighting the tank with a single halide or t-5s due to its shallow depth. I've already picked up a RL200 by PM, Steve D is using it and it sounds like a beast. I may go with the PM sump to, still undecided......

What i have decided however is the tank will be totally selfcontained. That said this rather small 58g tank will probably occupy the footprint of a 4ft 120g with a custom stand. I'm really going for that "curb appeal" this time around as the ghetto look works but just doesn't satisfy me.

This is likely six months in the making as I'm going to bide my time to make sure I get everything I want the first time and not making do with something that works for now...anyway I'll keep this updated as it comes together.

What did you do with all your corals?

They're in a safe place ;) and probably alot happier in that tank versus my tank.
Kicked myself in the rear for selling them last time. When my system is stable and running they will come home:cool:

Glad to hear

So Brian this is your 3rd....4th tank in how many years:p?:p. The 58G should be a good tank once you get up and running.

No clue about that sump company, but once I get back to RI and pickup my PM sump/fuge that has been waiting for me I'll let you know how I like it.

Yah I etched a smiley face into it for ya, It's nice and construction by pm is top notch but....I'm not feeling the area designated for a fuge however.

No way to control the flow other than the return pump size and or a gate valve controlling the water flow into tank or on the drain side of tank. It's actually a simple design that i could do myself with glass without the bling.

The company I linked above I would likely have to go custom as the skimmer chamber will not house the RL200. I'm also not to keen on the fuge spilling into the skimmer chamber, kinda defeats the purpose of providing a natural food source if the food gets chopped up by the skimmer.

Had certain circumstances not have happened my 65g would still be running today ;) For that matter my 75g would still be running had my house not burned down.............

o ya barry about that sump at j boys some 1 craked it getting salt from the boxes. chew good luck this time

I don't think you were supposed to tell him that  after john used the weldon 16 its was barely noticable. Worked like those windshield repair kits.

Funny guys.....very funny.....I know John kept it nice and safe while we are gone, can't fool me on that one.

Ok if you say so but when you see some of the protective paper ripped off the sump you might change your mind, of course this will actually work better for you, now you can pay the used price.......BTW not sure what your idea of safe is but johns is precariuosly balanced across both of the koi tanks......

On a side note I was debating on lights but my pocket and shimmer effect got the better of me, going to roll with outer orbits 2 x 150 + 4x39W t-5 + 18 moonlights, already picked it up for a very reasonable price.

Anybody try out the newer mp20 vortechs? Being that Im going to roll with a 4" shorter height tank I think the mp40's may be a tad to much + the 20's consume 18w max. From what i understand the only difference is the driver and they can be modded to 40's with the mp40w driver.

I'd just get the 40's and not run them full blast. The price difference if not that great and if you decide to upgrade again in 7 months you'll have the bigger boys!

+1

Plus I want you to have the nice vortechs so when you sell this tank I can pick them up cheap. :D

":(downsized not out totally...."

Well Brian,I think this signature needs to be changed.

":DYah,upsizing again"

you guys are already picking things when he breaks down? geez this is a tough crowd.

Goodluck on the new setup. take it slow and you'll be fine. I have full faith in you not like these other jokers.

I admire your guys wanting first dibs on vortechs mp40w's but your shopping skills are horrible.......

MP40W w/ driver $419
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...=PROD&Product_Code=ET-MP40W&Category_Code=Eco

MP40W wave driver only $99
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...=PROD&Product_Code=ET-MP138&Category_Code=Eco

MP20 W w/ driver $295
http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merc...n=PROD&Product_Code=ET-MP20&Category_Code=Eco

Its cheaper to buy the mp20 with a driver + a 40 wavedriver than the mp40w with a wavedriver......Resale value is worth alot more with 2 drivers versus 1 ;)
