Stocking list suggestions

I think I will be setting up a 40 gal fowlr and was looking for some stocking ideas. Everytime I go onto liveaquaria I change my mind. I want to keep fish that are colorful, have an intresting personality or something don't see in a lot of tanks. Any ideas would be great thanks.

My advice would be to take it all very slowly, and visit the LFS frequently. You will see all kinds of fish that you like and keep notes and take pictures. Then once you have an inventory of what you would like, determine compatibility and then stock up. You will be glad you took your time because once fish are in the tank, they are very difficult to remove.

I'd suggest a male flasher wrasse (of some sort) with a couple females for a harem, but that's just because I'm a big wrasse fan and I find them to be fun and beautiful fish to watch. The flashers are compatible with most fish and are also coral safe if you decide to go that route. Here's a few examples:

Also depends on what you're looking to spend. The male would be alright by himself as well, my blue-scaled fairy is doing great in my tank.

I was going to suggest the 1st. I am going to get a Red Tail, someday. The picture does it no justice. Jays had one a couple months ago, and I would have loved to get him. Im a Wrasseman myself.

Ok so I think I may do I Fiji Biotope. I may go with a bigger tank as well. I have been looking a little and fond a list of fish I like. Here they are listed from my favorite to my lest favorite. The fish with the * are if I go with a bigger tank.
(these are the common names list by liveaquaria)
Longnose hawkfish
Humu Picasso trigger*
Red tail flasher wrasse
Two-line monocle bream
Lyretail hogfish *
lemonpeel angel
Fiji barberi clow

I still need to Do more research on all these fish and find out their compatibility. This list may not be the stock list just a list of fish I saw that I would like to have.

Triggers are freaking aggressive and will severely limit your list of fish that you can stock with them. The passives like the flasher wrasse and lemonpeel angel will not be able to be stocked with it. Btw, love the longnose hawk, but I have several shrimp and if you want inverts, a hawk isn't a great choice.
