sump..where do i start?

well just upped my tank from a 20 gal high ....to a 55gal...
and ive been using regular hang on filters and tank always been fine aslong as i kept up with water changes.

so i got a 55 gal tank now and looking to make a sump tank.
i have a extra 10 gal tank sitting around would like to make it a sump but i have no idea where to start.

just dump in some sand live rock and lighting ...and circulate the water from the tank to the sump..and back to the tank ? or is it more complicated then that does the tank need to be devided in different areas...any help would be great

If your tank isn't reef ready with a built in overflow, you will need a continuous siphon overflow like this one....http://www.drsfostersmith.com/Produ...ll&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&Np=1&N=2004&Nty=1
and a return pump to bring the water back to the tank.

IMO, that style overflow is the worst design out there. I've own that style (CPR) and U-Tube, and I never had to worry about my U-Tube style overflow. I had too many close calls with my CPR overflow.

ok ..so i would need an external u-tub overflow...
what kind of pumps do you recomend? i would assume they both would have to be at the same gph rate?
