Temp at 92d AHHH - How bad is this?

got home today to realize tank temp was 92.... i put ac on, all fans are on. ice cubes and ice packs are in tank now to decrease temp. i lost already about 3-4 sps and some look pale. tank turned an light green color due to temp i assume.

how bad is it for me to get tank right back to 78 degrees by tomorrow?

92 is a little tough to recover I would think. Drop it down slowly.
Good luck.

92 is bad. Keep your fingers crossed, and start dropping the temperature back to low 80s through the evening/night.

But I'm not sure how much can survive a spike like that. Sorry to hear about it. It's sort of a rite of spring in the BRS. :(

losses doubled, and temp is now at 87..... still bad. water is getting cloudier and cloudier ...... is that normal with temp spikes.

im planning a huge water change tomorrow to remove algae bloom. lights will be turned off for a few days, or atleast on for a minimum amount of hours. any other ideas here?

a huge water change could amplify the stress imo. cloudy water is imo a bacterial bloom. sigh good luck dude. cant imagine how much that stinks

I'd do a water change. I don't think water changes are ever a bad idea, if they're done carefully (match the water parameters).
If anything's going to survive, keeping the water clean amidst all the dying/rotting corals is going to be important.

Good luck.

Wow, good luck with it. What a bummer.

I'm heading away for the long weekend leaving the AC running. I just did a test and am relieved that the AC does in fact turn itself back on after a power outage.

ITA do the water change.

Basement is the key word. Gotta luv those basements...even basement sumps work wonders.

tough luck with that heat spike finz - hope the best works out for you.

Finz, sorry for your losses. hope it gets better for you. I'm SO glad I convinced my wife to let me drill thru the floor and set up my sump & fiuge in the basement.

well. temp has leveled out. still losing things. started with about 20 colonies of differnt things.... now at 3 sps colonies (1/2 cap, 1 acro, 1 pocillopora) and a few lps (1 fox, 1 favia, 1 brain, 1 plate) i lucked out i guess and saved all my softies (zoos and rics)... i have a nice variety of zoos that ive been colecting (glad i managed to save those).

i redid all my rock structure and found a few goodies i didnt think i had... i hope to get my tank back up to par over the next few months

things i will be looking for

-S.Island purple cap
-Birdsnest
-purple encrusting monti
-red/orange cap
-purple rim green cap
-acros(green slimer, tort)

if anyone would like to help me with some frags of these i would gladly appreciate. i will be in market for these corals in the next two weeks once tank params are fixed

thanks everybody

oo i forgot

3 out of 7 fish lived (2 clowns and one baby hippo)
i lost my arabian dottyback, cherry pseudo, yellow jawfish, neon goby.. and a pistol

Sorry for your losses. Unfortunately IME, a lot of SPS will show delayed response to stress and will be fine for several days before RTN. I would continue to keep a good eye on things and have more water ready.

Sorry to hear the bad news. I will have birdsnest and green slimmer for you once your tank is settled and ready to restock. Drop me a line whenever you are ready.

Sorry for the losses, that stinks. LMK if you need to borrow a barrel, heater, PH, or other equipment to keep the water change water coming.

This is one of the reasons I'm staying softie dominated, they seem invincible compared to acros exct... I hate losing cool stuff, feel for you :(

JayM, you just need to explain to the Mrs. how frequent under tank sumps flood and ruin the floors exct.... Maybe have a couple of "close calls". Pretty soon she'll be suggesting putting the darn thing in the basement :) .

Damn, I hate seeing these threads. I have a vey large orange cap that I need to trim back. I can give you a very large piece of it. LMK if you are up in my area when you get things back in check and I'll hook you up.;)

Sorry to see this.

I can give you a piece of -purple rim green cap- when you are ready.
Hope things are stable and on the up swing.

thats very hot. natural reefs fluctuate from 75-86 ive seen my own tank as high as 86 degrees. with no ill affects. but thats extremely hot. i hope things recover.
