Thinking about building a Pico...

I've been itching to do something new reef related for a while. We are thinking about a Pico Reef 6 inch cube....wooping 0.9 gallons:eek:. Unlike my 3.8 gallon nano this won't be plumbed into our system.

Few things I need to figure out first.....

1) ATO for a 0.9 gallon tank, it will need to be accurate
2) Lighting, I am thinking LED so that there won't be much electric draw or heat
3) Keeping a stable temp
4) Surely there are more things I havn't thought of yet...

The fishy for this tank is already here....Blasted $70 Spikefin that is less then a half inch that sometimes I see and most times I don't even though he is in a 3.8 gallon tank.

Other then the Spikefin Goby maybe some Sun Coral and Rics possible some Acans if they will do well.

you may just have to do top offs with some of your established tank water..that way you wont have to worry about calcium and alk

definetly LEDs..check out pvh old thread about it..he did a 12g cube

i say no sun corals..feeding them will be a pain without having a nitrate mess
zoas and rics would be the easiest

You can't top off a salt water with salt water.....when water evaporates it leaves salt behind, then toping off with salt water would increase the salinity very quickly in a tank that size. Maybe you were thinking about water changes...those will be done from a combination of our system and the barrel of water change water in the basement.

I don't feed my Black Suncoral and it is usually out......
