Thinking about buying ATI

Jennifer is the best female reef companion EVER. Sorry ladies your going to have to step up your game to compete.

I've just sold Jennifer on a NEW ATI T5 fixture for the tank:D. We are currently running a 175 watt Iwaki 15K bulb sans actinics. She has been HOUNDING me to rig up a set or two of actinics since we setup the 93. After adding up the price of T5 bulbs, MH bulb, T5 reflectors, another ballast and having to have a hood made to hide the DIY mess I thought ATI.

The question is between the 6 bulb and 8 bulb. We have a 93 which is 30" x 30" x 24" with roughly 2" of sand. SPS up on the rocks with LPS and clammies on the sand.

Would the 6 bulb give us enough coverage or do we need the 8 bulb???

I'm leaning towards just going for it 8 bulb style, more combination's right:eek:

If we do this then we have to decide on bulbs....uggghh

8 bulb all the way

Barry do you think anyone is going to say go with the 6 bulb......... NO, 8 bulb all the way.......

How's thoes chalice frags doing? U get thoes things mounted yet?

LMAO I should have known nobody on BRS would suggest the 6 bulb. I just figured before we dropped $$$$$ I'd ask.

I just mounted them today....sadly this morning before I mounted them I was moving stuff around and crushed one of them because I didn't remember where I had stashed them:(.

what do you have in the tank? Absent SPS and clams, a 6 bulb ATI will definitely be enough with the right bulb mix.....

The ATI reflectors kick a**

We have SPS, thats why I am leaning towards the 8 bulb

I think a 6 bulb could get the job done but since Jennifer is awesome go with 8 bulbs... That means extra actinics to make her happy :p

if it wasent for clammy a 6 bulb would suffice but 8 bulb is the way to go

Do you like a blue tank???
4-blue +
2-Aquablue
2-antinic

Jennifer sounds awesome.
As far as my husbands tank goes, it's his tank. I just maintain it, check parameters, chang the water and tell him what to buy. I *tried* to talk him into a bigger tank with an 6-8 bulb ATI but he wouldn't part with his cash.
I figured with 8 bulbs there would be a lot more options for coloration and also for different things we could place in the tank.

I think now he regrets not listening to me now that he wants a clam :P

with that said, go for the 8 if you can. I mean 6 is great, but if it was my tank I'd like more blue supplemental lighting. It just looks better IMO.

8 bulbs does sound nice.
You would be better served with an 8bulb for front to back coverage. They are great fixtures - enjoy.
I am EXCITED.

I don't want it to be too blue. I was thinking maybe throughing in a fiji purple and maybe a pro color.

Jennifer is AWESOME. All my reef friends are jealous, there other halves go nuts when they spend money on their tanks. Mine loves the tank as much as I do if not more.
With a 30" wide tank, I'd get the 10 bulb.
10 bulb:eek::eek: that bad boy is for sure out of the question....I don't think I could sell that to Jen at all.

Any other thoughts on bulb combos?????

I have 12 bulbs (2 rows of 6 bulbs back to front). I have 4 ATI blue+ and 2 fiji purple on each side, I love it. If i had 8 bulbs I would try 5 blue +, 2 Fiji Purple, and a aquablue special.

I think the pro color is more purple then the fiji purple i was going to try them, but heard ATI is discontinuing them, didn't want to fall in love with a bulb i would not be able to get again.

I'm running
4 blue +
1 Aquablue
1 figi

It's pretty blue, but the kind of blue that really grows on you :)

I like the fact that he thinks his wife is awesome, and not afraid to say it. I have one of those as well Miller. We are lucky.:D

I have the 4' six bulb in my 178g. I was going to go for the 8, but they did not have any in stock and I was setting the tank up in my office and kind of needed it asap. I wanted to get a 60" fixture, but It would not fit in the cabinet. They vent from the sides through fans in the top of the unit and the guy at reef geek talked me out of the 60". I could have made it fit, but it would have been sloppy.

All that being said go with the 8 bulb.

We ordered the 8 bulb one last night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Put your sun glasses on :p As for what you keep remember placement is important and you should consider dark spots for your scolys they do not like ATI direct light  Caves are a most or overhangs what do I know I'm tired. :D as for color look at peoples tank's and see what you like. ATI blue + are a must and a ATI blue Special. Good luck
