Thinking of Adding Sump/Refugium. Need Ideas/Tips.

OK...I just bought some equipments to setup a sump/refugium under my tank. I'm thinking about setting up one but not 100% willing to do it yet. Let me know what sump/refugium ideas or tips that I could use.

Also anyone know what tank size would fit under a 72 G bowfront stand that I can use as a sump? I got a CPR HOB overflow, a Mag 9.5 pump and some hoses.

I would set it up to have the water go from the tank, through a filter sock and then go through a protein skimmer. From there you can set up either a refugium section or use more mechanical filtration. Perhaps a UV sterilizer? I would prefer no refugium section, but that's just me. Refugium would offer better oxygenation during the night hours, if that is something you would like to accomplish.

I had a 3 chamber (3 piece) one built by NeO in acrylic....split my drain into a refugium with DSB, the other side a cryptic zone. They both drained into a center chamber where my skimmer sat, through 2 baffles, and to a return.

Worked like a charm, just needed a well tuned ATO to keep the chamber at 8" to get consistent skimmer performance.

I think Peter needs to keep the refugium with reverse lighting schedule to keep his pH balanced. He's gotten it to stay pretty darn consistent since he's gone to the pumping of his 2 part with his HOB fuge/skimmer...

Does this mean the aquafuge will be for sale shortly?

It **was** under my 72, before I tied it into my basement system. The AGA stand I had was divided in 3 sections underneath, and it fit in fine.

yeah that's one way of doing it, but I already have my tank set up so it's going to be hard.

I think a 72G stand is one of the hardest to fit a sump under.

Don't worry, I'll definitely hook you up if I do decide on going with a sump. That's if I can make room on my back glass for the overflow now. lol
