Toadstool keeps splitting; why?

new2saltyfish

Non-member
I bought a maybe 3 inch neon green toadstool coral from a member maybe 4 months ago. It seemed to grow to about 4 inches but now instead of a 4 inch round toadstool it keeps splitting off babies and is almost clover shaped and splitting. Is there a reason for this? I’d like it to keep growing large rather than splitting. I have another large toadstool in the tank that has not done this

Now that I think of it my other toadstool is doing that lol. I thought it was just torn and kept growing lol
Not the best pic. But it’s on the left hand rim and mid of crown

When the grow in weird shape it’s hard for them to hold the weight so the frag them self . I had one do this for a year till I got the scissors out and cut it all the way around and it grew back out fine

Yeah that’s something they all do.
I learned from fragging my first from Dong when mine caught some sort of bacterial disease and rotting. It was huge. Now I only have Teo babies from that one.
The other one is not a beast as well but self dragging itself I guess lol
The circled one is the one. fragging itself. The other is the one not circled.

Possibly try a different spot with more light and different flow. If you frag it cut around the outside skirt at the top of the mushroom

Yeah, mine commonly does it as well. Might be a flow issue, you might try moving it to a higher flow area.
