too much hermit crabs????

In my 90 I have 5 in the DT and 6ish in my sump.

In my 30 I have 2.

I just don't like them because they kill snails and they move things.

What do you have for a bio-load?
I have about 12 in my 150g DT and about 6 in my 55g fuge.
Have to make sure there is enough for them to feed on if bio-load is low.

i have a pair of clowns, coral beauty, watchman goby, and a small lion. i just love watching there antics lol

20 hermits are not a lot if you like them. Just make sure there are enough empty shells of different sizes or they will fight to death.

Snail and hermit crab death is quite normal in my 27 gal. My pistol shrimp forces me to buy replacement snails and crabs every couple of months or so.

I added in some more snails into the tank last week. One of the snails was dead or near death. I counted 12 hermit crabs trying to eat the one snail. You have fewer hermit crabs per gallon in your tank than I have in mine.

i am also slowly letting my crab population dwindle. i have watched them move too much stuff. i have seen a couple tanks with a bunch and they are cool though, just not my thing...

i have a steady supply of hermits in my 36 but i also have population control by means of a mantis. if i need things cleaned up i rely on the few snails i have.

If u like hermits and u want enough to do the job efficiently and properly, don't be afraid to up their numbers a bit... anytime I have kept them and had live rock in my display (I have none in my display now) I have used 1 per gallon... not that I buy into the whole "per gallon" rules for most of anything it seems to be applied to, I jus find it to be a good starting point... until my last upgrade, when I kept a 40 breeder with a fair amount of live rock and fish for the water volume of my system, I used appromately 45 hermits to keep things clean like the surface of the sand and rock and all the rocks crevices... however, like stated above, make sure u have plenty of extra shells, or they will start killing each other...

Jmo, nothing more...

I've had good luck with scarlet hermit crabs. They're a bit pricey but FME they don't bother snails and they live for years; and even when they get big they don't seem to get belligerent. I like to have at least some crabs in my tank as I feel they can dig into crevices that the snails can't reach.
