Trying to see the inside of maxpect Gyre

Has anyone taken the shaft out per instructions ? I am dying to see what the shaft drive rides on . I assume its a magnetic drive just like the other pumps like Vortech or Jebao . or Tunze Maybe someone can post a few well lit pics so everyone can see ? If I like how the inside looks I will buy one . I am impressed with the flow it creates

The manual does not say it is magnetic drive, nor the cleaning section.

The pic on page 23 does look like a mag drive

From reef builders review in June.....

"Riptide is also one of the first aquarium flow pumps to use a direct drive motor, as opposed to the magnetic drive that powers virtually all our pumps save for the Hydrowizard. Having a direct drive motor is a more efficient transfer of kinetic energy from the motor and it also means there’s no magnetic rotor to clean or clog up, and subsequently less maintenance"

Here's the rotor. Still think it's not a mag drive?

Guess they change it. Well that answer a lot of question.

Looks like a double sided koralia magnet. Hope their coating is better, mine always used to split after a while

I have a box full of broken Koralia without magnet.

Should write an email to them, they used to send me free new ones

Thas a big design change from june until now...
I may get one but will wait a while to let them shake the bugs out. Remember the wet side assembly problems with gen 1 vortech?

It looks like Maxspect is taking liberty with the term "direct drive". They may be implying that the squirrel cages are directly driven by the mag driven rotor. As opposed to the vortech with has the wet side magnetically driven/coupled from the dry side.

If you look closely at the rotor pic posted, you can see the shaft is a half circle at the end. The same is true for the shaft on the squirrel cage. They interlock to make one.

All in all. it looks like a nice, new design though. Smaller profile than the usual prop pumps. But at that price point, I'll stick with my Jebaos.

For $300, you can buy three Jebao RW-20 (used to be WP-60), that is a total of 15,000 gph flow with three position points, wireless synchronize, can product gyre as well.

3x the pumps in my tank, 3x the wires and not sure how much, but more electricity. Looks matter to me in my DT.

My riptide sits vertically in the back left corner of my tank and with my black background you almost can't see it and you certainly can't hear it either.

After having it in my tank for 2 weeks I'll take it over any other pump. I retired 2 mp40s and 2 front facing power heads. I plan on buying another to retire the last 2 power heads. Only reason I need a second is with just one pump I don't want unidirectional flow. Sadly reverse mode sucks.

I have RW-4s in my fuge, great pumps, no doubt. Just don't want 3 if they bigger cousins in my DT.

...stupid auto correct

I saw one on E-bay for $168 I think they will take getting used to . and uni-lateral flow is not what we want . something ELSE to think about , thaaaaaaanks lol

If you're just looking for flow, then the jeabos are good. But for how much money you put into your display to make it look natural, there are better options. Both work well though so I don't really see a right answer past opinions....

Well..... I am always looking for something that works better to get the best possible result . ( not that things aren't good ) but things can always be better right . I think my kids are buying me one for Christmas anyway , Shhhhhh don't spoil the suprise lol
