Just went to throw some flake food into the tank and noticed on the sandbed a piece of my serpant star's leg. Thought it was weird, and proceeded to throw some flake food in. The rest of the serpant came out, which made me feel better because seeing the piece of his leg made me think that maybe he was dead and that's what was left of him.

Then all of a sudden (within probably 3 seconds of the flakes hitting the water) the leg starts moving!!! Is this thing going to turn into another starfish?? I've never seen this happen before!

It very well could. I think Greg Hiller had one do that.

if there is any part of the mouth or center disk it should re-grow

i got mad at mine choped it in half to see if it ate my mother blenny :(
it did at least now i have 2 serpants in my sump.

eeeewww!

Chris - no mouth. It was about aninch and a half of the end of a leg. Very weird response though that it started moving around when the food was dropped in - especially with no mouth!

So what your saying is, if you take a serpant star and cut off each of its legs, with a peice of the body attatched, each leg will grow into a new star?
