is dosing vinegar any good. I have seen a lot of people doing so now a days. I also have sps in my tank I don't want to kill them. if anyone has been dosing vinegar please share your experience in doing so. I have read that vinegar makes sps dull in color is this true? any help will be awesome thanks in advance.

My knowledge is limited to what I read in this article about using vinegar in Kalkwasser solutions in order to provide sufficient carbon dioxide to ensure the lime forms bicarbonate ions rather than forming carbonate ions and precipitating out as calcium carbonate.

I tried it a few time but I wasn't keeping up my testing and stopped too soon to observe good or negative results. I may try it again soon as water changes are not keeping up my alkalinity. Generally, there is a lot of good information on Bob Goeman's Saltcorner.com website. He was one of the pioneers in the hobby. He is currently in his 80's and is not as actively writing new material but he has responded to my email inquiries.

What benefits are you seeking?

what is it you hope to accomplish from Vinegar Dosing ? I ask because it has pros and cons . which I don't have time to get in to right now . But later I will elaborate

Vinegar is a kind of carbon dosing.
The stuffs in the vinegar helps the bacteria to consume the nutrient in the tank then that will help reduce the nitrate.
Carbon dosing is very dangerous so you need to start out at a very low dose (5ml).
You also need to test your water for nitrate. Once your nitrate is at a desired level you can then either stop dosing or do minimal dosing.
There are other stuffs that would do the same like voka, zeostart3....

Need to do some reading online though.

Good luck

For small tanks, Vodka dosing is slightly better because it won't have big impact of pH. But on the other hand, water change is better than vinegar or vodka dosing for small tanks.

+1 , to this

As for what Reef87 said no its not dangerous and NEVER suddenly stop dosing it . it has to be brought in slow and brought out slow The acetic acid is what the bacteria feed on and since it is an acid it will drop the PH a bit . Vodka is a better choice cause it is the sugar that feeds the bacteria .In addition if you are running a calcium reactor or think you might have a higher CO2 concentrate than say a normal tank would Vinegar dosing can and will affect your calcium in a good way I dose Vinegar in my 500 gallon system because I don't always have salt for water changes as often as I would like and or the time . it is a cheap way to keep nitrates in check The Bacteria will also eat Phosphates but not as much as nitrates so you will probably need to manage Phosphates anyway

wow that a lot of info to take in all at once lol. I don't think im going to try this till I have a way bigger tank but I was just trying to get a feel for it now and start my research a head of time.
