***Warning and recall of Stealth Heaters***

Just noticed this on RC,not sure if it's been posted here yet.

Stealth Heaters finally recalled
Got this email from pet smart.


Dear Valued PetSmart Pet Parent,

Marineland has issued a voluntary withdrawal of the Stealth PRO Submersible Heater (100, 200 and 250 watt). The product is being withdrawn due to a quality issue.

If you have this product, please stop using it immediately and take the following steps:

1. Unplug the heater from the wall to stop the flow of electricity
2. Let the heater cool for 15 minutes
3. Remove the heater from the tank

Please bring the product to your closest PetSmart for a full refund or exchange. Replace the product with a comparable heater as soon as possible to maintain the temperature of your aquarium. A PetSmart store associate can help you select the right heater for your aquatic environment.

If you have questions about this withdrawal, please call Marineland Customer Service at 800-526-0650 or 800-432-6986.

At PetSmart, we are concerned pet parents, too. We will continue to do everything we can to help you and your pet during this time.

The last two days My two stealth 300 watt heaters have not been able to get my tank above 70. Now I know I thought maybe the thermometer as off.
Of course the 300 watt is not included in this.

I guess it's the newer "Pro" models with the light up dial,Anthony.
I have 3 older models with no indicator light.A 50 watt,100 watt and 250 watt.
Never had an issue except the dial is off some.

There is discussion going on about the 300 watt to be included,Lisa.
One guy on RC had a 300 watt blow in his tank.

I just called petsmart they do not carry the 300 watt and it is not in the recall but they said to bring in my heaters and they will swap them out for a different brand. I am so glad I read this.

I just realized mine is the visitherm it is constantly on and cannot bring my tank temp up. The thermometer is completely cold to the touch.

I have two 300watt Pro's on my shelf. New in box that I got maybe a couple months back. I may check with the local Petsmart and see if they will do a swap... though I originally bought them at FosterSmith. Would be nice if I could get them swapped there. I'd rather not deal with Marineland directly. I anticipate replacements will take far longer than heading down to the local store.

I brought my "Pro" heater (the one with the light dial) to Petsmart yesterday and they said that wasn't the one... instead it was the older model with the red dial. Figures those are the ones I have the most of in my tanks, so I brought them in and they exchanged them. I'm still scratching my head though because they didn't exchange the "Pro" one which clearly says Pro on it (the red dial one doesn't). I did notice they pulled all of the Pro ones off the shelf...?

Yes I had a few frogspawn heads melt I don'tknow if that is related. Other than that things seemed fine except leather were no puffing up.I went to replace them yesterday and I live so far fron any store except petsmart and petco.I had to get a fluval m series which I hear are terrible. They cost me $92 which is ridiculous 2x what they cost online. I am going to order a controller and different heaters online and return these. I just did not want to go without heaters.

I think the store was confused or trying to pull one. You can't order a higher wattage Stealth Pro heaters (with the clear dial) through the major aquaria vendors anymore. They have pulled them from their product list. They aren't on the shelves because they were recalled.

I assume by thermometer you mean heater. Also, its not on if its not warm. Just the thermostat and the light are working. The heater element is broken. Aqueon makes heaters that are covered by a limited lifetime garauntee.

Man I was wondering why my heater is always on green. My digital therm says that the tank is at 75.8 and the heater is set to 80. I'm pretty sure the only thing that is heating my tank is the halide. Thanks for the post. I'm on my way to petsmart now.

Ok so I just called the petsmart in north Attleboro and the manager of the store told me that there was no recall of any kind. So I called marine land directly. There is a stop sale of the heaters in the store. The heaters are overheating and the cases are cracking. They people at marine land offered to ship me out a new heater for free. They were super helpful. If any has any issues with any retailer I would recommend calling marine land directly.

They are replacing with Visitherm heaters right?

Here is the catch. The Visitherm heaters cost LESS than the Stealth Pro heaters new. If they are replacing recalled product and replacing with product of lesser value... not much of a deal.

Yes it appears they are replacing them with Visitherm heaters although I haven't replaced my Stealth Pro at PetSmart yet. I had an old regular Stealth (not the Stealth Pro) and Marineland shipped me a new style Visitherm.
