WARNING!!! online site Atlantis Aquarium AEFW!!!

jovreef

I'm the girl
Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that Atlantis Aquarium the online site out of CA is infected with AEFW's BAD!!!

I just ordered a few things from them & the corals are swarming with rather large AEFW's that are visable to the eye & the underside is covered in eggs!!!!
I am waiting for them to open before I contact them regarding this.

Here is a pic of the coral with the eggs all over it

And in the bucket you can actually see the worms running around after I swished the coral really hard.

you must always see the good side in people, because if you ask me, there is no way that could go "unnoticed" to someone who knows the hobby well enough to propagate and sell frags.... they know...

It may be they get these in from some aquaculture station and sell them off with no QT and no inspection, that would certainly explain the lack of awareness at Atlantis.... a question - have you contacted them for a refund or to make them aware of the pests?

M.

that is not cool. Hopefully they help you out, let us know there response

Moved out to Reef Talk.
This will generate waaay too much discussion for the VE forum.

lol, well I can never put these posts in the right forum...

I contacted Atlantis & spoke to a (what sounded like younger man) who said they could not be acro flat worms & are probably the brown worms but he'd have Ming the manager call me back. I sent him the same pictures I posted above.

Ming called & said these corals came out of the smaller holding tank (he has 4 systems that are not connected together) that he puts wild colonies in after an iodine dip, he would be treating that tank right away. He offered to send me replacements out of his show tank that he is positive does not have worms. He told me to dip them & if I did find anything on the replacements to contact him right away & he would give me a full refund.

Clalk this one up to "dont even trust the reputable dealers" always dip & inspect!!!

Sounds like the best response you could have gotten from Atlantis though. That certainly sucks...
You dont have to pay shipping again do you?

yet another example and need to always dip

Absolutely, NO MATTER where they come from. Nobody is immune to pests. I can't count how many times I've heard people say, "I got it from here, so I don't need to treat". Better safe than sorry.

Nice job catching it Jovana and it seems like they handled it as best they could.

I agree they handled it the best way possible. I do think they should send an e-mail to anyone who has purchased from them recently to let them know of the situation but thats not up to me.

& no I do not have to pay for any shipping, he said he'd refund even the shipping charges if I found more on the new ones.

You post was fine.
People are having trouble not commenting in the VE forum.
It was obvious this thread was going to generate too much discussion to keep it in VE.

Just an update. I got my replacement frags in saturday & dipped them in a rather strong & long dip followed by a violent swishing in the water & there are no pests or eggs on these.
