water stains?

I picked up a nice used tank, but I can't get the stains off the inside. They appear to just be hard water stains but they won't budge. I've tried white vinegar with about a 2 hour soak and a razor but still no progress. Anybody have any ideas?

I'm familiar with it, i've used it a few times on masonry so I suppose i can just try it diluted here, but it seems real nasty for a tank. have you ever used it in one?

I had a good amount of residue also--scrubbed and scrubbed to no avail. But once I filled the tank, I couldn't see it at all.

I used vinegar to clear them off of my tank. You need to be sure to get all the vinegar off w/ water before you begin filling and stocking your tank, though.

actually, a little vinegar wouldn't really hurt much. Some use it as a carbon dosing source.

+1^ Give more like a 2-3 day soak with a pump circulating..it'll be gone.Depending on tank size user a gal or 2.

If the tank is still empty try CLR. (Calcium , lime , remover .Make sure to rinse the tank well.

scrape with a razor blade and water... it will get rid of it instantly.... do not use chemicals... that will set you back alot, razor blade is easy and fail proof.

i've already been scraping with both water and vinegar for a long time and got nowhere. Maybe I'll try a longer soak with the vinegar, the CLR and muriatic have me a little nervous.

Try polishing with regular old toothpaste. I have no quirks with using CLR on an empty tank but that's just me.

yes i have. it didn't cause any problems, just rinse it well.

I used clr on my tank, no issues thus far. Also, it is typically much more visible when the tank is empty.
