Good evening and hello my fellow fish friends!
I’d like to take a moment tell you a bit more about myself and my work; my goals for participating in this year’s BOD and hopefully give a bit of clarity where it may be murky?
Let me begin by saying THANK YOU for encouraging and entrusting me with this opportunity. Where one door closes, another opens. As many of you know, I was ( and will always be at heart) an entrepreneur and reef enthusiast turned LFS. I did open a small shop “Well Tank Goodness” in June 2021 which stayed open until Dec 2023 to the public and was fully dissolved by April 2024. There were many factors that led to this which I encourage you to ask me when you see me next, or give me a call.
From 2021-2024 I was cleaning aquariums personally on a daily basis for other clients. You most likely have never been to my shop- it was located in Endicott NY, but you may have seen me set up at a handful of events over the past few years. How you may know me is from my Nudibranch costumed antics at CFFM( and many others) or from the 2023 Polo Reef Panel, ReefaPalooza dressed up as a giant Squid leading a parade, volunteering for LIRA at their member booth or at any of the past 3 years at your own Fragsgiving event. Professionally, you may not know; since closing my small business and focusing on my family, I was honored to facilitate presentations about Coral Disease and Pest Identification and other events at Cornell University, rebuild my own local reef club, and much more. Being the ever energetic person I am, I have been pitching my ideas about different ways to approach the social and interpersonal aspects of reefkeeping and its events to every organization who would listen or who didn’t have the time or ability to run away from me while I was talking…
Since 2022, I have attended Frag swaps no longer selling livestock- because it no longer aligned with what I felt I would bring best to the events and gatherings of my fellow hobbyists. I wanted to be IN the crowd spraying joy. So I made a huge purchase of merchandise in the end of 2022 of things like stuffed animals, toys, custom artwork, from another reefer as well as many of my own creations.
I made it clear to the organizers of every show that my goal was to work my way out of having a sales table and work my way into creating a shift in how we approach hosting the events by getting behind the scenes.
As with most of my ideas, people can be skeptical, and with that I take every opportunity I can to demonstrate how and why my unique approach might be the small change that we need to see. When I get into the show- I’m energized and SHARING the love with everyone.
Through results driven demonstration and my relentless suggestions- at the end of 2024 I made my last HURRAH the Fragsgiving event in Boston. I brought free kids activities and inflatables and created a place in space for people to do something different. And I think for a grassroots effort it worked.
Lots of room for improvement, but you never know until you try.
It was all out of pocket donated by me, hauled all the way from the New York Pennsylvania border.
I’ve been hauling around the same merchandise from a single purchase for two years- never once have I covered my cost of travel and lodging with my profits from attending the shows- I gave my best effort over a period of time to demonstrate what I felt could be positive change for BRS.
I speak for the families, the parents, the newbies, the easily bored and grumpy: to succeed in todays world we must be more FUN, joyful, engaging and create space for everyone at every level to feeling encouraged to come be with us learn with us and feel welcome.
I’m here to help people feel WELCOME. And I think much of the discourse that I have stayed completely out of, demonstrates the pinnacle of why I want to be here. We welcome all who seek knowledge, we encourage all and in that encouragement, we ask questions with the intent to provide or find the answer.
As of Jan 2025 Well Tank Goodness is no longer servicing B2B clients ( businesses) and only offering drop in consultation and education to home clients ( that’s 4 families that won’t let me go.)
I work at JC Penney, and have since August 2024. I have my own aquariums, and I do run a craft stand at my farmers market 12 times a year selling handmade trinkets of my children’s and I.
I have been invited back to CFFM for the 4th time ( I help host children’s work with my table) and entertain; and any other event I attend will be as a volunteer or contracted event staff.
I have no financial interests in joining your ranks; and I hope to demonstrate for many years to come the sincerity of my passion and positivity of my input for our beloved organization.
Please feel free to always reach out to me directly if you have any questions, comments, concerns, or suspicions. I’m here to help I also feel comfortable being the nicest group of reef enthusiasts the world has ever known.
TLDR: I work at the mall, closed my shop in 2023 and don’t know where all this nonsense comes from.
