Well Water, whole House filtration, RO/DI and bleach?

Well the other day we had our yearly service done on our house filtration system. We have had a slight smell in the laundry room from the water. So they poured bleach into the system. Now I was not home during this so I am not sure exactly where or how much was used. So on my RODI I have valves on the input and output that I keep closed unless I am making water which I was not at the time but I am going to need to in a few days. So there should not be any bleach in the system. I am thinking of disconnecting my input and let that run a for 10-15 minutes to make sure there is no residual bleach on that leg of the plumbing.

Does that sound sufficient enough as a precaution? Has this happened to anyone else, if so what did you do? Not sure what bleach does to the RODI system.

Thanks

What do you have a shallow well? That is the only time I have ever heard of pouring bleach down the well to kill stuff. We use to have a shallow well 22yrs ago and we use to have to let the bleach sit for a day or two and then run the water until there no longer was a bleach smell.

Whatever you choose to do I would proceed with caution.

There are RO/DI's that are specific to chlorine/chloramines removal as most towns put them into the drinking water. I would flush your system and then when you do not smell chlorine anymore. I would flush the pipe out that runs up to the RO/DI before I ran any of that water through your filter.

I could be totally wrong in saying that it would not hurt the unit, but I do not believe the residual chlorine would be removed by the RO/DI.

Again, I would proceed with caution and wait for others to reply.

PM coming.

Sounds like a good plan to let the feed line run for a while to clear out any chlorine.
From what I understand chlorine will wreck a ro membrane.
Whenever they report that the town is going to chlorinate the water.I don't use my ro/di for a week.
Some ro membranes will remove chlorimines.

Thanks, I sent a message to Bulk Reef about this to see what they say I should do. I do not have a chlormine filter on my system and I do not want to ruin the system I have now.

I dont remember if it is a shallow well. I am not sure they put the bleach in the well or somewhere in the house as I was not there and the wife was a little preoccupied by the kids to follow them around like I would have.

Is your well a big sewer pipe laid verticle with a cap?

I contacted Bulk Reef telling them the situation. I also mentioned that on the leg of plumbing that my feed comes in there is only an outside faucet, I let that run for 20 minutes to help flush anything that was in the plumbing, and I was gonna take the feed line out and let it run by itself for a few minutes also. Here is his response.

That sounds like it should be more than fine. Really the carbon blocks should take care of any residual bleach that was left in the lines, however disconnecting the line from the unit and letting it run sounds like a good precaution.
