My heart feel to my feet at 5 am to a crashed tank. My whole tank sump and all was chalk. Dont know what happened or what to do. Gonna get my crew started and then head home and change the water.wtf I am heart broken right now this sucks.

That is awful so sorry to hear. Try to run some polyfilter, check temp and all paramaters. Carbon and water change. Was it a heater exploded? Or a contaminant that fell in the tank? Awful to hear Good luck I feel really bad for you so sorry

Ditto on above. Good luck! And keep the faith.

Not sure everything still is intact. Heater and pumps. Stuff is like chalk all over the glass and water is completely white. Temp is 77 ph 8.1 salinity is 1.024. Ofcourse those are the things I could see right away. Sucks cause I only have 55 gallons of fresh water mixed up. Nothing like watching 1500.00 dollars in corals and fish suffer and prolly die.

Use tap water to mix salt in this situation.

That's tough man good luck, huge water change and tons of carbon. Any chance it was like a large clam spawn or something like that?

hopefully a pump fell or something.............let us know u made out of if u need water

You were not painting in the house were you? My water turned white once and it was paint fumes sucked in through the skimmer.

Is everything dead, or is this a calcium precipitation issue? The latter is easily fixable, but looks scary.

Hope it's not the first option.....

That's awful. I hope it's not as bad as you think it is. Let us know when you figure out what happened.

Did anything change recently, like adding anything, livestock, chemicals, any conditions in your house change? anything at all? Can you see anything alive? What are the fish doing? Snails? corals? do you have a volt meter to check for stray voltage in your water?

My only thought at this point my controller failled and the sodash doser was going all night and that casued it. It has that milky look when you dose the soda mix but rhe kicker is my temp is fine ph is 8.1 now. Just ran home changed the water. Done a 55 ga wc and this stuff is all over the rocks the corals and the glass. Was able to blow most of it off with the hose during water change. My thing is if its on everything then its in the gills and all through the corals internal filter aswell. Sucks cause I am on a water main break in hampton.not like I can run home and fix everything now. Gonna have to wait until 3 or so.

Sounds like a precipitation event. I've heard of similar experiences with kalk overdoses. Its not that uncommon. I hope at least some things managed to survive. Good luck!

If your doser was dumping soda ash all night, I would expect the PH to be much higher than 8.1 and salinity much higher than 1.024.

Ya me to. But its set on a slow slow drip. And I havent mixed any new sd ash in over a month more like 5 weeks. So could it be possible that the dose mix was just bad??????? How long can you store mixed soda ash???

5 weeks should not spoil your 2 part. Unless you have backwash and other stuff fell in the container. I use a 10 gallon tank with baffles to divide it into three sections. It takes close to year to use them all up in tank. I highly doubt you have a spoiled 2 part solution.
As always, don't panic and overreact. And certainly DON'T use tap water for your waterchange. Observe what is happening in the tank and adjust accordingly.

First thing to do is to check your paramters. A simple 1-minute alkalinity check would tell you a lot.

Ya I wouldn't use tap at all. I would run down to the ocean befor tap. I have rodi wc station at home so no probs there. I have my two part in a selfcontained sealed unit all by its self. I will know more when I can chk the parms. Fish seem fine. Frogspawn and hammers fully extended and toadstoll opened right up along with the clam. Stuff just looks like chalk all on the glass and my sump and mangroves are smothered. Owell just keep swimming just keep swimming. Thats all I know to do.
