well woke up this morning to devastation. .dont know what to do...

Looks good so far. The clam should be the one very sensitive. If he is happy, everything may be OK. Or, is it possible that the clam just, well, have a fun day puking out its seeds?

Any chance you had phosguard running? I had a similar thing happen when I ran phosguard and the flow broke the balls down into a powder. Tank was white but everything was open and happy, and after cranking my skimmer up to skim wet for a day all was back to normal.

Almost sounds like an overdose of calcium. This would explain all the precipitation.

Yup, OD Ca or alk when things are otherwise normal and calcium carbonate will precipitate/fall out of solution/snowstorm, causing just what you are describing.

You'll probably find that Ca or alk is now substantially lower than usual. If Ca is lower then you probably had an alk overdose, and if alk is lower than usual then a Ca overdose.

Scary as it looks your tank may be fine. The white precipitate will pass on it's own. As long as nothing is dying you can probably just correct the Ca and alk level(s) and everything will go back to normal.

Now cross fingers and hope I'm right :)

MAG went from 1400 to 1080.
Alk went from 12.6 to 13.40.
Calc went from 400 to 320.
Ph is. 8.1
Salinity is still 1.024
Everyrhing else is zero

Yup, Alk over dose.

Many people use nothing but tap water,it probably is a lot safer then water from the beach. I am also sure that many people on this board would sacrifice some ro water if you needed it.

I would like to see their tank. Actually, I rather not...

Why you keep your alkalinity so high?

I dont it has been running at 10. Way back when I first started mixing my own water I got a bad batch of IO salt and my alky wouldn't go below 14 but switching my salt to crystal seas help me over the past three weeks get it down to 10. But now I have to start all over. Just cleaned the whole tank and moved some rock around to get the sediment off the corals and keep from smothering them. Tank srill crazy cloudy. Prolly gonna take some time and lots of filter media. Making some more rodi water now and going to do another water change with reef crystal salt tomorrow. So far have only lost one coral the waving finger polps that look like long xin's.The rest of the corals have mostly extended polps. So hopefully they survive. 1 out of 50 pieces isn't bad I guess.

I hope everything stays alive and well for you.
Odd that you had that much precip. with those numbers.
Mg drop that quickly 1400> 1080 without water changes?
Mg. usually takes a very long time to drop. Not like alk or Ca.

something a little similar happened to me over a year ago, checked all my parameters ,all were fine .i stopped checking for ammonia a long time ago so i deciced to check ammonia and that was it .seems i disturbed a plenum that had been working excellent for years in my sump.at that point i isolated the tank from the sump with my many valves to contain it,and used a seachem product to start lowering the ammonia levels ,besides water changes.and got to save a lot of my livestock and corals.i now have a little seachem ammonia warning chart that sticks inside the tank also by seachem.sounds though that your problem is different.do you use a 2 part calcium- alkilinity product .years ago before i had a calcium reactor i had something more similar to what you are describing.it seems that i added the products too soon after not letting the alk dissolve enough before adding the calcium ,i was told the products came out of solution i had a snowy flaky substance all over my tank and corals.just trying to help ,hope you find the cause

Thanks P. Still not sure what caused it, after dusting off the rocks moving a few things around and cleaning the tank walls with the mps on 100% with in two hours water was crystal again. Other the a lil residue still on the back wall tje display is perfect again. Now my sump is still covered. Miracle mud top is all white and mangrove roots and heater stem is white. So I have to tackle that tonite. Thanks for the help everybody. So much appreciated! !!!!

Any updates on this? Sounds very strange. Wonder if it was calc precip or something else? That's why I hand-dose and only use a controller for heater/fan because things like this scare the heck outta me.
