What causes white haze on the glass

I just bought a tank to be used as QT, it was free because of the spots of haze on the inside glass but got me to thinking as I was cleaning it up, what causes it. It is almost like it is pitted and no amount of scrubbing with water and vinegar and my Mr Clean Eraser sponge would take it out.

Just curious and making sure if it is preventable it does not happen to my current DT or just something that happens to all SW tanks over time.

Did it have a small before you started to clean it?

Lime deposits? Was it fresh or salt before?

it was salt, not too concerned with this tank, it was a freebie because of it and just wanted to give it a good scrubbing before setting it up as a QT for some new fish I want to get but got me to thinking about my own DT tank and wondering how to avoid it is all.

Maybe not cleaned properly before going dry??
