im just curious, ive read that they can lose there smashers if there not giving live food to beat up...saltwater crabs, snails, etc could get pretty pricey over time. do people use freshwater snails, crabs? and is it ok to give them freshwater snails, crabs? if not its fine, just like to save a few bucks, who doesnt

you can feed tem almost anything, but I would try and stick to things that it would naturally eat, SW prey...crabs, fish, shrimp, snails, squid. And they do not need to eat live all the time. I have fed them everything from live to flake food, frozen mysis, shrimp pellets, clam, mussels, oysters on the half shell. Just keep it a good variety. They will lose smashers every once in a while in my experience anyway. My personal theory and experience is they will lose them most commonly if the levels of Calcium, Iodine, and Alk are too low. Also I have noticed them lose smashers when given hard shell prey right after moutling, most likely the new smasher is still somewhat soft shell and breaks off. But it will grow back.

ok thanks for the feedback, ive been feeding turbos, brine shrimp, and im sure wateva else he gets his hands on in the tank..just curious are you saying the paperboys that deliver your paper or this something else, ha
