What does a healthy Maxima Clam look like ?

I am very new in keeping a maxima clam.

I would love to hear some recommendations and suggestions for succesfully keeping a clam long term. Perhap hints on how to tell if the clam is happy.

What do they look like when they are happy ?

What type of light do you have and how far from the light is the clam?
What about water flow? - clams hate high water flow.
How long have you had it for?

FYI, Maximas don't open as much as a lot of other clams. If they are extending too much it means they need more light. Based on the photos provided, it looks ok. A shot showing more of the mantle would help though.

This is true. If you google pics of Maximas you will see how little they open in the ocean.

Again, Maximas do not open open that much. Look at Ledreef's. Those are great examples of what they should look like. A photo either from the top or from the side so we could really see its mantle would help, but from what I can see, it looks fine.

Thanks guys. My lights are two Maxspect Razor. I dim down the intensity to 45%, usually at 70%.

I think the clam opens similarly comparing to when it was in store.

if the clam's foot is not achored to a rock, put a small piece under the sand and let the clam anchor. Once it attaches, it will help the clam settle. They like med/high light and flow. I use to keep maximas and croceas mid tank with high flow

Frank, thanks for asking. It fell over on its side early this morning, but now I've put it on the rock and seems to be doing just fine. Look like it opens a little more as well.
