What should a reef parameters be

It depends what you want to keep.

If you go to a site like etropicals, they will give you the ideal parameters for each animal.

Mine are:
79 degrees
1.024 s/g
8.3 ph
0 ammonia
0 nitrite
0 nitrate
10 dKh

I still need to p/u more test kits.

calcium is generally in the range of 400-450,
alk in the 8-12 range,
magnesium I think around 1200 (someone else chime in here).

These numbers as well as temp, etc will vary depending on what you plan to keep. You will also need to consider lighting requirements and flow when planning for a reef tank, as some inhabitants (most sps) require higher flow and more intense lighting, in addition to more calcium.

Softies, zoos, mushrooms, etc can get by with lower light, less flow, and don't zap the calcium out of the water column quite as quickly as SPS does.

What do you plan to keep?

All sounds good. I would keep Magnesium in the 1250 to 1400ppm range if you plan on SPS, if not I wouldn't worry about magnesium.

You need to keep that magnesium up in the normal range otherwise you won't be able to keep your alk and calcium where it should be.

What I would like to have is mostly sps a couple of clams and some softies. My reactor is not up yet (maybe friday or saturday) as for lighting I have 2-250w.10kSE XM and 2-110 VHO super actinics over a 120rr.Right know I have 6 diff. pieces of sps not sure of the names just yet but one of the Montipora is dying off the paremeters look fine so i'm thinking that it might be to close to the lights.Right know i'm using Instant Ocean test kits (should I change this)and IO salt I was told it could be the salt but so many people use it I don't think that's true. What do you think.
