Just turned on the mini splits as my system usually runs 75.5°

75 to 76 F.
AC is on today.

Turned on the AC for a little bit today. I also started running the system at 77 instead of 78 so gives more room for heating up.

My basement is about 72°F maybe 74°F when it's super hot out but love the basement life as well!!!! It does get down to 60°F in the winter thought but still don't have issues keeping tank at 78°F. I plan to actually add clip on heater fins with a fan to get a little more heat in the basement during the winter. Hopefully I have a 200+ gallon tank come this winter that will help keep basement warmer anyways!

My seahorse tank I run at 72 and the rest at 77. When the basement is finished the combo system down there will run at 74 and I’ll drop the last unconnected tank down to 74 eventually as well.

Plan on getting a dehumidifier too if you don’t already have one!

Why that low?
No particular reason other than the downstairs of the house is pretty tight and runs warm.Just got solar installed prior to the winter so will be running the mini splits more often.

If it’s a good size one it should be good. During the summer months mine runs quite a bit with 200+ gallons of water in my basement.
I forget what it's rated for but a second one would probably be worth it if nothing else for redundancy.

Ive been reaching almost 81. I think it was 80.7 today.
Im not turning on ac yet...its too nice. The tank will be fine as long as it doesnt get above 84

I like this thinking! I think temp fluctuations are fine in tanks a few degrees either way as long as it doesn't get too cold or too hot. Ocean changes a bit with the seasons so why can't our tanks?

There are several reasons that I keep my tanks around 75 to 76 F.
1. Back more than 15 years ago, then co-founder of Unique Coral, Scott, found that coral in his farm showed better color when kept at lower temperatures such as 76F. He gave a presentation to Boston Reefers back then when he mentioned about it.

2. More and more researches show that many coral, especially acropora, are living at deeper water where temperatures are normally cooler, such as 74 to 76F.

3. Researches show that bacteria such as Vibrio coralliilyticus, a globally distributed bacterium associated with multiple coral diseases, infects corals at temperatures above 27 °C. (80 F).

Dong I have listed and the lps definitely love the colder water too I stay around 75.
