Bass in pic swam away
I'm planning on black sand in the 75. I think it looks outstanding and really helps the colors pop. Where do I get 100 pounds or so?

fwiw, there have been many post on RC that folks love it....in the beginning. Then when the detritus builds up and "crud" starts to build, that it is difficult to keep clean. I don't have any first hand experience but that is what convinced me to not have black sand. I've been known to let the tank go quite a bit.

Why would the color make a difference? Is it that the detritus shows up more?

I think thats the jist of it, everything tends to show up more. I plan to use it when I get a Solana but I prob would not on a larger tank for both that reason and the possible lack of reflection from the lighting.

I find that mine has stayed much cleaner than my white sand.

It isn't just the normal gunk that shows up more. If you move your rocks around and some chips off in the sand, it is a PIA to pick out all the little bits. When I bought my 90 from Liam, the sand got crazy dirty in the move with all the rock debris. I picked out as many chunks as I could but it was never as deep black.
You are absolutely 100% correct about the black making the colors pop though. I had small Zoa colonies on the sand and the colors seemed more intense surrounded by the dark sand.
