Why is my Quiet One NOT Quiet on Start Up

I'm having problems with a "Quiet One" pump.

It's fine once it gets going, but I can always get it going (I have to plug it in and unplug it multiple times to get it started). I've attached an mpeg4 audio file of the disturbing sound it is making when it doesn't start up.

What's going on and how do I prevent this?

P.S. I had to zip the file b/c m4a is not yet supported on the site.

I took the whole thing apart and cleaned everything. Didn't help. The impeller surface was smooth and did not look worn at all (this pump is almost new). When I took it apart the first time though the ceramic shaft was broken at the tip so I replaced that, but it didn't make a difference at all.

I bought this pump to mix salt water and have only used it a about 5 times for very short periods (a day or two max). I was assuming it just wasn't doing well at the bottom of the barrel I am using b/c of the heavy concentration of salt at the start of the mixing process, but I opened it up and cleaned it and everything seemed fine.

I'll take a closer look at the impeller when I can shut it off again (I'd do it now, but I am in the process of mixing salt for a new system and I am going to keep it running as long as I need it b/c it might not start back up).

If I can't figure this out I have a backup pump that I have around in case my main pump goes out (an iwaki) and I think I might just use that instead and never touch this brand again.

i was going to get a quiet one, but i read reviews online and i read mostly bad things. i instead went with a mag 7 which works great for me.

I Have the same Problem. Does not like to be turned off is great shape... Just some times it does not start up and as a return pump it kinda important to be reliable... I am going to a mag next time the mag 5 on my skimmer likes the 12hr on/off and i know will be the better pump next time....

Mag pumps aren't always all that reliable on restarts either.

I recently bought a second hand quietone 3000 to use as a return pump from my sump to my FOWLR. It had the same exact restart problem. From all the complaints here and on RC it's obviously a VERY unreliable pump. Do yourselves a favor and don't buy one.

I purchased an Eheim 1260 which appears to be very well built, is quiet and is supposed to be extremely reliable (by all the excellent reviews everywhere).

+ 1 on the eheim. I have a 1262 ,super quiet and no problems
